Abstract

The purpose of the study was to find out the extent of television viewing on children’s acquisition of language skills in Port Harcourt metropolis of Rivers State. 250 pupils were chosen as the population sampling size. Three research specific objectives and questions were raised. The researcher structured questionnaire titled “Television viewing and Children’s Acquisition of Language Skills (TVCAL)” was used for data collection, while mean and standard deviation were used for data analysis. Result showed that television viewing promotes children’s acquisition of language skills. Also, that the pupils not allowing to watch television especially those channels that educate them is a constraint to pupils’ social, physical and speaking development.
